Checkmarx debuts AI-powered developer security tools

Checkmarx introduces a new suite of AI-powered developer security tools for enhanced real-time application security.

Checkmarx has announced the release of its Checkmarx One Developer Assist agent. This innovative tool comes with extensions for prominent AI-native Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Windsurf by Cognition, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot.

The Checkmarx One Developer Assist is a leading-edge security agent designed to offer developers real-time, context-aware solutions. By providing prevention, remediation, and guidance right from the development environment, it empowers engineering teams to manage AI-generated code effectively, advancing development while upholding stringent security standards.

“With AI now generating a majority of new code in enterprise environments, traditional security approaches can't keep pace and will be overwhelmed,” said Jonathan Rende, Chief Product Officer at Checkmarx. “We are focused on ensuring protection starts at the source—whether generated by humans or AI—by putting more power into developers' hands to identify and remediate issues in real-time.”

Initially available for popular AI-native coding tools, the Checkmarx One Developer Assist plugins offer seamless access to data-driven prevention and prompt problem-solving capabilities. These plugins, an extension of the Checkmarx One platform, integrate effortlessly into developers' main working environments.

Preliminary feedback from enterprises in sectors such as healthcare and finance has been overwhelmingly positive. Users report increased alert accuracy and quicker resolution times, underscoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the tool.

Describing the initiative, Ori Bendet, Vice President of Product Management at Checkmarx, revealed, "Developers report faster detection and improved insights." He reiterated the firm's commitment to streamlining security workflows and minimising manual labour.

Given the speed of AI-driven code generation, security risks are more pronounced. Automated tools like Developer Assist are crucial for managing these vulnerabilities. The agent automates detection, analysis, and remediation, synchronising with the rapid pace of AI-based development.

Notably, Developer Assist marks the inception of Checkmarx's AI agent programmes, with plans for additional tools—Policy Assist and Insights Assist—to be launched later this year, catering to AppSec teams and CISOs, respectively.
