Global Technical Realty strengthens sustainability commitment

Global Technical Realty (GTR), a $1bn European build-to-suit data centre platform - funded by KKR, a leading global investment firm - has appointed Steve Webb to its executive leadership team.

Joining as Data Centre Operations and Sustainability Director, Webb has 15 years of knowledge and experience in the design, build and operation of data centres for both multinational companies and cloud providers.

In this new role, Webb takes responsibility for GTR’s operational processes and procedures as well as leading the company’s sustainability agenda. GTR is committed to energy conservation, efficiency and utilising renewable energy solutions which Webb will now establish key milestones for, and report on progress made.

“Data centres play an increasingly critical role in the world’s digital infrastructure,” said Franek Sodzawiczny, Founder and CEO at Global Technical Realty. “As an integral part of life in the 21st century, it’s important that operators seek out every opportunity for efficiencies and work harder than before to show real accountability in finding more sustainable alternatives. Steve will be an invaluable addition to our team as we continue to grow, and further prioritise our green credentials.”

Prior to joining GTR, Webb has held several senior positions including CFO for a Fortune 500 company, CIO for Ark Data Centres and undertaken COO responsibilities across Europe, Southern Africa and Japan. Most recently he held the CEO role at SafeHost SA, where he grew the company to become the largest data centre operator in Switzerland before completing the sale of the company and effectively managing the transition of the business into the new owners.

“Increasingly customers want to partner with data centre operators that are focused on long-term sustainability and are actively using equipment that will drive CO2 improvements across the life of the data centre,” added Webb. “GTR has created a robust sustainability programme and is focused on making further advancements, against aggressive timescales. I’m looking forward to being part of this exciting shift in thinking and showing the wider industry how we can deliver much needed operational changes in a timely way.”
