Snowflake opens European research and development office in Berlin

One of Silicon V.alley’s most exciting technology companies invites Europe’s best software engineers to join

Snowflake Computing, the only data warehouse built for the cloud, today announced the opening of a new research and development office in Berlin to accelerate its global technology leadership position. Coming on the heels of its recent $450 million growth funding announcement (which raised Snowflake’s pre-money valuation to $3.5 billion), the company chose Berlin as its first European Research and Development Office to help support the exponential growth of demand for its cloud-built data-warehouse-as-a-service.

Enterprises of all sizes, and from all industries, deploy Snowflake to free their organisations from the constraints of legacy on-premises and legacy cloud data warehouses. Snowflake enables the data-driven enterprise by delivering innovative architecture and technology from world-class engineers. Snowflake already has North American field offices in New York City and Bellevue, WA. In Europe, Snowflake has established offices in London, Paris, Munich, Stockholm and Amsterdam.

Berlin is one of Europe’s most exciting technology hubs and has the additional benefit of being a magnet for premier technical talent, including engineering students. Snowflake co-founder and CTO, Benoit Dageville will lead the Berlin office. Veteran Snowflake engineers Martin Hentschel and Max Heimel will join Dageville. They will focus on the democratisation of machine learning and artificial intelligence, making these technologies more cost-effective and easier to use for enterprises, mid-small companies and individual developers.

“Snowflake became the world’s best data warehouse because the company started with the world’s best engineers” Dageville said. “We have attracted top engineers from around the globe. Now it’s time we opened our doors to the best engineers in Berlin, one of the most diverse and innovative cities in the word. We invite engineers from all around Europe, who want to change the world with the most innovative data warehouse technology, to contact us.”
