Menzies Aviation is enhancing its analytical infrastructure by migrating to Qlik Sense®, giving staff across the organisation access to operational data whether they are on or off-site and at any time, from any device. With more flexible and timely access to the most accurate information, staff can make more informed decisions that will lead to an increase in organizational productivity and safety.

Menzies Aviation is a global provider of passenger, ramp and cargo handling services, striving to give aviation customers a seamless service from touchdown to take-off. The company’s goal is for everyone – from operational managers, cargo managers and safety officers – to engage with both data and analytics with actionable insight. With staff across all airport locations constantly on the move, the company needed a flexible and mobile BI solution to give everyone access to easily understandable data visualisations – in any situation.

A long-time customer of QlikView, Menzies is now moving to Qlik Sense to increase the flexibility of its data analytics use. The organisation’s BI team will be able to connect data collected from internal applications with external sources, making it easier to identify the impact that external factors, such as the weather, have on the running of operations.

Predictive analytics is being used throughout the organisation to improve safety & security by focusing the attention of regional and global management on high risk stations, which are identified by analysing a number of key risk drivers. Qlik enables Menzies to capture, categorise and analyse every incident and risk factor in order to prevent their re-occurrence. The analytical dashboards also provide an effective and timely overview of the number and type of inspections that are being performed - on and off ramp – to ensure the safety and security of millions of passengers, as well as tens of thousands of staff members.

Moving over to Qlik Sense will give staff at all levels access to the at-a-glance insights they need to do their jobs. Business-critical data no longer needs to be accessed through a desktop, via the IT team or by sifting through the whole infrastructure. With Qlik Sense used in conjunction with NPrinting, automated, pre-scheduled reports are delivered straight to staff, ensuring the appropriate aircraft and cargo checks are being met on time.

Speaking of the decision to adopt Qlik Sense, Andras Horvath, Head of Business Intelligence, Menzies Aviation said: “At Menzies Aviation, we prefer to set standards rather than chase them. As a long-time customer of Qlik, we’ve seen the benefits that the sophisticated analytics platform has had on the running of our operations – from improving customer satisfaction through to helping enhance our safety and security practices.

Using Qlik Sense will allow management to drive the business forward in a more efficient manner, having critical data at their fingertips at all times. The easy integration with a wide variety of API’s and user-friendly interfaces will enable us to create dashboards that are better suited to the needs of the business. Supported by the power of the back-end Qlik engine, the Qlik Sense platform allows for a high degree of flexibility when it comes to developing highly complex applications that will serve us well in the future.”

Qlik is currently used to analyse and report on data collected from all the major systems within Menzies Aviation and the plan in the future is to connect all new systems and applications to Qlik. As more systems are on-boarded, whether through acquisition or internal change, the company is hoping for a greater adoption of analytics within the organisation. These will help further improve safety, efficiency and, ultimately, customer satisfaction.

Qlik’s UK&I MD and Country Manager, Simon Blunn comments: “It’s no secret by now that the ability to read, work with and analyse data can transform how an organisation works. However, it is becoming increasingly important that access to these insights are spread out across all levels of a business, with flexibility vital for any large organisation. It’s great to see that a global business such as Menzies Aviation is leading the way with this, giving employees real-time access to these insights, which ultimately improve productivity as well as enhancing safety and customer satisfaction. We are looking forward to seeing the great work Menzies Aviation will do with Qlik Sense.”
