Music licensing company PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd) has implemented Birst’s cloud-based networked business analytics platform. Using Birst, PPL will roll out increased levels of on-demand analytics to users across the business, based on a new centralised data model. Prior to implementing Birst’s cloud platform, business users’ access to analytics was limited by the volume and complex nature of PPL’s data, held across multiple systems. Analytics reports were delivered through several solutions installed on users’ desktops, with frequent silos of information created, duplication of data and the need to often reconcile statistics across solutions.
The Insight & Innovation team at PPL decided on Birst as the most appropriate solution for deploying analytics that could bring together multiple sources of data into solutions that can be used by multiple people across the business, on demand.
“Our approach to data is changing – we are now gathering more types and volumes of data than ever before, which gives us great opportunities to leverage it for insight, but only if we can empower business users to quickly and flexibly analyse it at scale,” said Matt Phipps-Taylor, Head of Insight & Innovation, PPL. “At the same time, as a not-for-profit, we have to do this cost-effectively. Birst’s cloud model allows us to be fast and agile in the way we develop and deliver analytics, so that we can put more focus on the quality of the insight users can gain from our data and spend less time on the task of managing and manipulating it.”
The implementation at PPL combines Birst with Amazon Redshift, a cloud-based data warehouse service that can host large volumes of data. With this combination, PPL can bring together many sources of data to centrally analyse with Birst, while benefiting from the value and scalability of cloud-based storage.
“Making it easy for business users to access analytics is something that companies of all sizes are looking to achieve,” said Brad Peters, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Birst. “Birst’s cloud-based networked business analytics platform helps business users transform raw data into connected insights quickly and effortlessly. Further, we enable people to extend their analytics, data models and visualisations through a seamless, networked integration of data and analytics deployments across their organisations.
