Sainsbury’s creates role of Chief Data Officer to enhance data-driven approach to retailing

Andrew Day to join on 30 August from News UK with a strong background in Business Intelligence and Data Management.

Sainsbury’s has appointed Andrew Day to the newly created position of Chief Data Officer. In his new role Andrew will be accountable for overall data management. He will be responsible for developing Sainsbury’s information management strategy at a central level and driving an approach across the business that ensures data-led insights are at the heart of Sainsbury’s strategy to deliver for its customers.

Andrew will report to Ed Barker, interim Chief Financial Officer at Sainsburys. He will be a Divisional Director, responsible for a Corporate Data Team of approximately 50 colleagues, comprised of Sainsbury’s existing Business Intelligence team as well as the Data Science and Data Quality Management teams. He will be based at Sainsbury’s Store Support Centre in Holborn.
 
Prior to Sainsbury’s, Andrew Day was Chief Data Officer and Business Intelligence Director at News UK. Before joining News UK he was Business Intelligence Director at Telefonica, where he worked for 10 years. Andrew has also held senior CRM and Business Intelligence roles at Orange and Sky.
