C Spire, whose wireless unit is the sixth largest in the U.S., has selected software provider OnApp as the customer portal for its enterprise cloud services based on VMware vCloud Director. After an extensive proof of concept phase with several vendors, C Spire selected OnApp as its customer portal to provide the best possible customer experience and continue delivering the latest VMware features to its enterprise customers.

C Spire has provided VMware-based cloud services since November 2014, and worked closely with VMware's professional services team to implement OnApp as its preferred customer portal solution. The company offers a range of cloud hosting services for enterprise applications at its new $23 million Tier III+ commercial data center in Starkville, Mississippi. The 23,800 square foot facility is the only Uptime Institute certified Tier III data center available within 250 miles of that location, and one of only 17 such commercially available facilities in the U.S.

"At C Spire, we’re passionate about our mission to provide the highest quality services for enterprise customers," said Tad Hamilton, vice president of IT Cloud Services for C Spire. "Through our extensive range of enterprise cloud hosting services, based on VMware, we help business and government clients take full advantage of the benefits of virtualization for their enterprise applications at our state-of-the-art data center.”

Hamilton said one of the company’s primary goals is to make the cloud as secure, reliable and intuitive as possible for corporate clients. “The OnApp portal makes it possible for our customers to choose, configure and deploy cloud services,” he said.

"C Spire is known as one of the most innovative communications providers in the U.S. and we’re proud to partner with them with the OnApp portal as the front end of their enterprise cloud services based on VMware vCloud Director," said Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp. "The OnApp portal is designed to help service providers like C Spire provide the most intuitive, automated and, above all, the most reliable way to provision the cloud hosting services that enterprises need. With the extensive VMware vCloud Air Network product support available in OnApp, we're looking forward to helping C Spire customers transform the way they provision and manage their services."

At the end of 2014, VMware announced that all new vCloud Director functionality would be accessible via third party portals. The OnApp portal for vCloud Director has been in development since early 2014, and is now growing with support for a wide range of VMware vCloud Air Network products, including vCenter and vCloud Air. The OnApp portal offers an intuitive, customizable and feature-rich front end for a wide range of VMware-based cloud services and includes 24x7 support as standard with a 15 minute SLA. This helps service providers ensure that they can continue offering the very latest VMware functionality to their clients, while transforming the user experience.
