Housing & Care 21 is using Tintri VMstore to underpin its virtualised environment. Tintri has simplified management, increased reliability, lowered power costs and reduced the data centre footprint by 10 percent.

Housing & Care 21 is one of the UK’s largest not-for-profit providers of retirement housing and care services for people aged 65 and above. With 150 local authority areas across the UK, managing 19,000 retirement and extra care apartments and providing over 80,000 hours of care each week to more than 31,000 customers, Housing & Care 21 makes a significant impact on the lives of older people. Housing & Care 21 runs its IT operations from one main data centre in Luton and has a secondary standby disaster recovery site in Birmingham.

Housing & Care 21 had been relying on a conventional EMC storage environment but needed a solution that was cost effective and could offer high performance. As a not-for-profit organisation, the organization is always on the lookout for solutions that make more efficient use of their resources; so when its contract with EMC was up for renewal, its IT partner Kelway suggested Tintri as an alternative.

Housing & Care 21 ran a one-month trial and then purchased a Tintri VMstore T880 for the company’s main data centre and an additional T850 for the disaster recovery site. With the Tintri VMstore T880 and VMstore T850 systems deployed, backups are now 50 per cent faster compared to the previous EMC solution. Management has been simplified and Housing & Care 21 now benefits from a 10 percent reduction in power costs and smaller data centre footprint. The lowered costs have allowed Housing & Care 21 to house its disaster recovery centre in its own building rather than a rented, hosted site.

Ed Newman, IS Technical Services Manager, Housing & Care 21 commented: “Since implementing Tintri, it has been so much easier to use and we have noticed a huge performance increase. The Tintri systems are very easy to configure and manage and the scalability is a huge advantage. With the benefited cost savings we have just moved our DR centre into our own building.”

Doug Rich, EMEA VP, Tintri said: “Housing & Care 21 provides a great service and as a not-for-profit organisation we are really pleased to have helped them reduce costs. The Tintri VMstore is designed to offer companies simplified management and high performance so it is perfect for organizations such as Housing & Care 21 that are looking to implement a cost effective and reliable solution.”
