Clavister partners with LeverTech

Clavister and LeverTech, the Brasília-based specialist in sustainable technology, have extended their partnership to develop infosecurity and communications solutions for government and private-sector organisations in Brazil.

Clavister and LeverTech have demonstrated their first jointly-developed solution, an advanced cloud security appliance with next-generation firewall features, integrated SIP voice PBX and caching function for content delivery. The new appliance, codenamed Jaguar, is aimed at public and commercial organisations that want a single solution to manage and secure their business data and voice communications against interception. It is expected to be available later in 2014.

The new appliance is a result of Clavister’s technology transfer partnership with Levertech. Both companies collaborate with Brazilian universities and IT research centres to develop solutions that meet the country’s market-specific requirements, including auditing of IT products sold to Government organisations to ensure they have no backdoors that could compromise data security.

LeverTech has already supplied and deployed Clavister security solutions, both virtualized and with purpose-built hardware, to Brazil’s Ministry of Sports and other ministries, to protect networks in preparation for the FIFA World Cup which starts in June, and for the 2016 Olympic Games.

The new solution was launched at an event held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Sweden, Magnus Robach, and was attended by several representatives of the Brazilian Government with interest in secure data and voice communications. Mr Robach commented: “This cooperation is an excellent example of successful technology transfer between Sweden and Brazil. I believe it will make a significant contribution to ensuring safe, secure use of the Internet in Brazil, for both individuals and organisations.”

In April this year, the Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff ratified new legislation guaranteeing Internet privacy to the country’s citizens. The Brazilian government has committed itself to defending online freedom with a range of measures, following news in 2013 that Rousseff and Brazilian state interests had been targeted for surveillance by foreign powers.

Brazil has the world’s seventh largest economy and the fifth largest Internet population. A 2014 survey by research firm Vanson Bourne found that of 500 IT decision makers in the UK, France, Germany, USA, Brazil, Hong Kong and Singapore, Brazil had the highest proportion (52%) of respondents who said that cyber security was a major concern for their business. This contrasted with 41% in the US, and just 17% in the UK. The country’s information security market is worth over a billion dollars annually, and is expected to continue to grow rapidly.
