Vision Solutions Inc. has announced the release of version 4.1 of its Double-Take® for AIX product family for IBM Power Systems running AIX in physical, virtual and cloud environments. The Double-Take for AIX product family provides easy, automated high availability with Double-Take® Availability™ for AIX, reliable disaster recovery protection for data and applications with Double-Take® RecoverNow™ for AIX and migrations with near-zero downtime using Double-Take® Move™ for AIX.

For Robert Willis, systems architect at Interline Brands, Double-Take RecoverNow for AIX provides critical protection for three AIX servers with tightly coupled applications running in a data center located more than 1,000 miles away. Willis began using Double-Take for AIX 4.1 in autumn 2013. “The CDP technology in Double-Take for AIX allows us to recover the data on all three servers to the same point in time, right down to the second, to ensure everything is synchronised and operational after a recovery,” Willis said. “No other technology offers this level of precision in choosing recovery points for our systems.”

Double-Take for AIX is built on powerful, real-time replication technology combined with full-featured continuous data protection (CDP) and a browser-based user interface to deliver easy, automated recovery of data and applications from any point in time. Double-Take for AIX protects any AIX environment regardless of the mix of hardware, storage and operating system versions in physical, virtual, cloud and mixed environments.

Key enhancements in Double-Take for AIX 4.1 include:
· Enhanced replication performance
· Support for unattended, lights-out monitoring with email alerts
· Additional ease-of-use features, including new, automated procedures for common administrative tasks, faster status collection and display, support for secure connectivity to the browser-based user interface through SSL and the ability to create admin groups that share configurations
· The option to streamline the deployment of Double-Take RecoverNow for AIX on IBM PureFlex Systems using a virtual appliance
“IT departments face continuing pressure to manage an avalanche of new mission-critical business data and ensure 24/7 access to it on their servers,” said Alan Arnold, executive vice president and CTO at Vision Solutions. “Double-Take for AIX 4.1 delivers the functionality companies need to protect themselves against costly data loss and downtime – maintaining their productivity, reputation and budget. Its advanced replication technology combined with expert services additionally enable organisations to modernise, reorganise and consolidate their AIX infrastructure for cost-effective and efficient operation.”

Also, for organisations that have chosen IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for AIX for high availability, integration with Double-Take RecoverNow for AIX extends and enhances the clustering capabilities of PowerHA with off-site disaster recovery protection and point-in-time recovery to deliver comprehensive HA/DR protection.
