Onyx Group, which is headquarted in North East England, has risen from a regional, home grown IT company to a national technology provider with 10 sites across the UK and a turnover expected to reach £20m by the end of 2013.
The tenth anniversary of the Newcastle data centre comes at a time when the company is experiencing increasing demand for data centre services. Onyx has just opened a fifth data hall at its Edinburgh data centre, bringing the company’s total investment in the site to £6.5 million since 2010.
Neil Stephenson, CEO at Onyx Group said: “The tenth anniversary of our Newcastle data centre is an important milestone in the history of Onyx as it was the first of our five data centres to open its doors.”
The 220-rack tier-3 facility was the first data centre in the world to acquire the ISO 27001 accreditation for information security, recognising Onyx Group’s desire to set the highest industry standards and its commitment to ensuring the security and integrity of its customers’ data.
Stephenson continued: “We are proud that over the last ten years, from our base in the North East, we have been able to set the highest industry standards for the rest of the world to follow. We can now list major firms among our customer base, which spans the professional and financial services, education, public sector, manufacturing and housing sectors.”
A specialist in Data Centre, Cloud, Business Continuity and IT Security solutions, Onyx Group has 10 sites throughout the UK including London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Teesside and Sheffield. It serves some of the UK’s best known businesses and was recently listed in The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 and The Investec 100 which both monitor the fastest growing technology companies in the UK.
