Sepaton has unveiled the S2100-ES3 series 2925 purpose-built backup appliance (PBBA) with version 7.1 software.
The enterprise-class data protection platform with 7.1 software extends Sepaton’s support of all leading enterprise backup applications by giving administrators the flexibility to backup and deduplicate data using Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) over Fibre Channel in addition to the existing IP connectivity. Sepaton has also added support of Gresham Enterprise DistribuTape (EDT) version 10.0 to allow IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) users to automate key TSM virtual tape implementation processes. Sepaton also extended support for KMIP compliant enterprise key managers with qualification of SafeNet KeySecure version 6.3 EKM.
“Sepaton’s data protection platform delivers unequaled performance that allows our enterprise customers to meet backup windows with confidence, recover data to business users as fast as possible, and achieve the industry's lowest total cost of ownership,” said Mike Thompson, president and CEO of Sepaton. “By using the Sepaton S2100-ES3 together with the industry’s most popular backup applications across multi-protocol environments, customers can dramatically increase their backup and restore performance without disrupting their existing backup infrastructure and achieve enhanced flexibility in their data protection environment.”
Sepaton now enables customers to backup NetBackup OST via their choice of 8 Gb Fibre Channel, 1 Gb Ethernet or 10 Gb Ethernet protocols for maximum flexibility. This added connectivity provides the flexibility to use OST in traditional Fibre Channel storage network environments or to migrate non-disruptively from one protocol to another or from one backup application to another by leveraging the S2100-ES3’s advanced storage pooling capability.
Sepaton has also partnered with Gresham and qualified Gresham’s EDT v10 software with the S2100-ES3 with its version 7.1 software. Gresham software cuts manual setup time for Tivoli Storage Manager implementation from four to six hours to mere minutes by automating the TSM virtual tape drive device discovery, definition and volume and labelling processes. Gresham EDT dramatically simplifies ongoing device management and improves TSM performance through advanced features like HBA load balancing and WWPN device mapping. Gresham EDT allows TSM users to take full advantage of Sepaton S2100-ES3 grid scalability by enabling new tape devices and media to be added to TSM without disruption to TSM operations.
“We have long recognised Sepaton as a leader in grid scalable data protection technology. Sepaton’s recognition of EDT’s ability to improve TSM users’ experience and fully exploit the capabilities of the Sepaton S2100-ES3 illustrates Sepaton’s commitment to delivering the highest quality of service to meet the backup and recovery needs of large enterprise customers,” said Christopher S. Young, managing director, North America, Gresham Computing plc. “We look forward to further collaboration with Sepaton and we see this as a significant step forward for both organisations to best serve enterprise TSM customers.”
Sepaton provides encryption of data at rest without a performance penalty and enables customers to use their choice of KMIP-compliant EKMs. With version 7.1, Sepaton added SafeNet KeySecure version 6.3 EKM to its list of qualified EKMs.
“Our relationship with Sepaton will enable enterprises to provide efficient, secure encryption of data at rest with encryption keys managed by KeySecure, SafeNet’s EKM designed specifically for enterprise environments,” said Tsion Gonen, chief strategy officer, SafeNet.
