The MapR Distribution for Hadoop running on VMware vSphere enables enterprises to use Hadoop to make better business decisions based on large data sets, while achieving enhanced agility and greater control of IT resources to utilize hardware more efficiently. In June 2012, VMware introduced Project Serengeti™, an open-source project that helps enterprises quickly deploy, manage and scale Apache Hadoop in virtual and cloud environments. VMware has engaged the Apache Hadoop community, including MapR, to help enterprises take advantage of VMware vSphere to deploy a highly available Apache Hadoop cluster in minutes, including common Apache Hadoop components like Apache HBase, Apache Hive and Apache Pig.
