As part of a major network renewal project, HGC has selected Transmode to build its new Hong Kong 100G optical backbone network. This new network will initially provide corporate and wholesale customers with innovative and flexible high speed communications services and could later be expanded to address other services. As a leading business centre in the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong relies on world-class telecommunications services to support the financial hub and Hutchison's corporate trading and banking customers. These, and other data centre customers, will be served by this new and cutting-edge low-latency network.
Under the frame agreement, HGC will deploy Transmode's TM-Series including Gigabit Ethernet, 2.5G, 10G, 40G and 100G transport over an 80-wavelength ROADM-based Flexible Optical Network with Transmode's Enlighten(TM) multi-layer management suite. HGC will also utilise the newly-released Transmode Planning Tool to plan on-going network and capacity expansion. The first deliveries for the project have already started and initial services are planned to be operational in H1, 2013.
Byron Chiang, HGC Technology Director, said, "Our goal is to provide our customers with the best quality, high-speed services through our extensive fibre network. Transmode has helped us to design a highly efficient, flexible and scalable optical network. We have completed a field trial earlier with great success and we are confident our 100G optical backbone network can meet the growing demands from our customers."
The new network will cover the entire region, including Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories. This network will interconnect a large number of customer premises, data centres and submarine cable landing stations. The new design utilises low power and compact nodes at all locations, saving both energy and space.
Karl Thedéen, Chief Executive Officer of Transmode, commented, "We are honoured to win such a significant frame contract from HGC and to have established Transmode as a new strategic supplier to a leading Tier 1 carrier in the Asia-Pacific region. Winning this new business demonstrates the support we can give to operators across the globe. The Asia-Pacific market is very interesting and rapidly growing, which makes it strategically important in the company's global growth plans. This makes this milestone win all the more important and pleasing to all of us in Transmode."
Simon Naylor, Vice President Asia-Pacific for Transmode, also commented, "We are delighted to be announcing HGC as a new customer after an outstanding effort from the Asian team during the tendering process and fantastic support from the whole company. We look forward to deploying this highly sophisticated, yet elegantly simple, high capacity network and supporting HGC as it adds new services."
Transmode will also provide a comprehensive range of support services including local engineering, four-hour on-site spares delivery and training services.
